Casino bonus terms explained

A welcome bonus is only useful when its rules fit the way you intend to play. This guide explains the terms that can change the real value of an offer.

01

Start with eligibility and the qualifying action

Check whether the offer is limited to new customers, a particular country, currency or payment method. Some bonuses require an opt-in or promo code before the first deposit, while others activate automatically.

Record the minimum deposit, claim deadline and any excluded payment methods before paying. A deposit made too early, too late or through an excluded method may not qualify.

02

Calculate the wagering requirement

Wagering tells you how much qualifying play is required before restricted bonus funds or winnings become withdrawable. Confirm whether the multiplier applies to the bonus only, the deposit, or the deposit and bonus combined.

For example, 40× a £20 bonus means £800 of qualifying wagers. If the same 40× applies to a £20 deposit plus a £20 bonus, the requirement becomes £1,600. This is turnover, not a prediction of loss or return.

03

Check eligible games and contribution rates

Slots may contribute 100%, while live casino, roulette, blackjack, table games or crash games can contribute less or nothing. Individual titles can also be excluded even when their category normally qualifies.

A lower contribution means more real play is needed. At 10% contribution, £100 staked adds only £10 to wagering progress. Read the contribution table before choosing a game.

04

Separate every expiry date

An offer can have different deadlines for opting in, depositing, completing wagering, claiming Free Spins and using them. Free Spins winnings may have a separate expiry as well.

Write down the shortest deadline. Unused bonuses, spins and related winnings may be removed automatically when that deadline passes.

05

Find maximum bet and cash-out limits

Bonus play may have a maximum stake per spin or game round. Going above it can breach the promotion terms even when the casino interface allows the bet.

Also check whether winnings from bonus funds or Free Spins are capped. A large headline reward can be less valuable when the maximum convertible or withdrawable amount is low.

06

Understand withdrawals, KYC and bonus cancellation

Withdrawing a cash balance while a bonus is active can cancel the bonus and associated winnings. Check the order in which cash and bonus balances are used and whether a bonus can be declined or cancelled manually.

Identity, age, address and payment ownership checks may be required before withdrawal. Complete requested verification with accurate information and never treat “no verification at sign-up” as a promise that no checks will occur later.

Nine questions to answer before depositing

Is my country and currency eligible? Do I need to opt in or enter a code? What is the minimum qualifying deposit? Which payment methods are excluded? What balance does the wagering multiplier apply to? Which games contribute and at what rate? What is the maximum permitted bet? When do the bonus, spins and winnings expire? Are winnings or withdrawals capped?
